Join us for the 34th Annual (Virtual) Run/Walk/Skate/Bike!
Since 1987, the “Boys’ Home Run” has been a feature of Bright’s Grove every Father’s Day. We had to cancel in 2020 but are back for an exciting virtual 2021 edition! This year's event won't just be limited to participation on Father's Day, everyone who signs up will have the period from Mother's Day to Father's Day to pick their preferred date to complete their distance.
Only for 2021: We'll have all the distances you've come to expect from Run/Walk/Skate/Bike, but with a twist - sign up for the distance of your choice and complete it however you like - run, walk, skate or bike. Run the 20km? Bike the 5km? It's all up to you.
Also unique for this year, if you're looking to push yourself a little further, sign up for one of this year's challenges and complete two distances during the event period (it doesn't have to be on the same day). Each challenge participant will receive a Run/Walk/Skate/Bike mug to commemorate their achievement. Spaces in each challenge are limited so sign up early!
Rather than collecting donations and pledges in person, to limit contact, participants are encouraged to set up online fundraising pages they can share with friends and family. A link to create your page will be available once you complete your registration, and you can log back in to Race Roster at any time to access it. Prizes will be available for all fundraisers, see 'prizes' and 'FAQ' tabs below for more details.
We didn't forget about breakfast! Add a $10 voucher from John's Restaurant that is good for dine in or takeout of:
Bacon or Sausage & Eggs, home fries, toast and coffee or juice OR pancakes with your choice of bacon or sausage, coffee and juice
$1 from each voucher redeemed will be donated back to Huron House.
All paid registrations include both a physical and virtual event kit. The physical kit will include your event t-shirt along with some other goodies, and the virtual kit will include a printable race bib, a finisher's certificate (generated by Race Roster), printable finish line tape to break as you earn your personal best, and more.

Given current restrictions all kits will be delivered or mailed, there will be no in-person pickup.
If you signed up during the early bird registration period, your kit will be delivered to your home the first week of May. More details will be communicated.
If you are not in Lambton County, we are happy to ship your kit to you. If you would like to help us offset costs and cover part of the shipping, please select the 'kit shipping' add-on for $10 during registration.
It's fun to be part of a group of family, friends or co-workers, and we encourage you to sign up as a team. We've made it easy for group members in all categories to benefit from a team discount of 5%.
Team categories:
- corporate - get your office or shop together and enter as a group of 4-10. For an extra incentive, challenge another business to see who can get the fastest total times, or who can raise the most funds.
- parent/child - this option is available for teams of 2. You can complete the same or different distances.
- family/friends - any combination of up to 10 paying registrants (children in free events don't count toward either the minimum the total)
You can either sign up all at once, or individually. If you would like to sign up individually, please designate a team captain who will sign up first and then share a custom team registration link with the rest of the members. Team captains have the option to create an access code for additional security so only those with both the link and the code can join.
Hints for successful team registration:
- Have participant personal information handy as data is lost if the program times out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
- If you are a large team/family, consider registering members in groups of four or five at a time.
- VERY IMPORTANT if registering all at once: Register all team members before hitting the 'continue' button at the bottom of the page. Once that button is pressed you cannot return to modify participants.
Note: If you would like each member of your team to be able to sign in and access their own fundraising page, they will have to register with their own Race Roster account. Otherwise, they will need the login details of the person who signed them up, or that person will have to be in charge of updating each page.
If you would like to have your team name printed on your t-shirts (shirt back); that option available until Mother's Day (May 9). See "Team T-shirts" tab below.
We are delighted to offer team t-shirts for teams of four or more. For $2 per shirt the team name will be printed on the shirt back.
To receive your shirt by Mother's Day (Sunday, May 9), orders must be placed by Sunday, April 4.
To receive your shirt by Father's Day (Sunday, June 20), orders must be placed by Mother's Day (Sunday, May 9).
No team shirt orders can be placed after Mother's Day.
We are happy to offer exciting prizes as an incentive both to sign up for the event, and to participate in fundraising.
Prize categories for this year include:
- top individual fundraiser - a backyard staycation package featuring a brand new barbecue and more to be confirmed
- top team fundraisers - gift certificates to have a group dinner celebration when pandemic restrictions are lifted
- top number of registration referrals - free registration in 2022
The first 100 registrants who receive a donation on their fundraising page, or make a donation themselves will receive a free gift of a Run/Walk/Skate/Bike water bottle!
Prize draws will also be held for all participants who raise $150 or more, and all those who refer someone else to sign up with their unique URL.
Draw prizes confirmed so far include: Tim Cards, gift certificates to Boston Pizza and more.
To be eligible for prizes, funds must be received by the end of day on Saturday, June 19.
To view results or to upload your own, click here. Results can be uploaded from May 9 until June 30.
I want to sign up but don't want to do so online. Please call us at 519-869-4000 or email hvallinga@hhbh.ca and we can arrange an alternate method of payment and collect all the information we need.
If I sign up for a challenge, do I have to complete both distances on the same day? Absolutely not. You can do them as close together or spread out as you like, so long as they're during the official event period.
How do I get credit for referring someone else? Once you're registered, the confirmation page that shows up will include a link to set up your fundraising page, and another to share for referrals. Copy and share that unique URL in an email or message to friends, or post on social media, and you will get credit for anyone who signs up using that link. The unique link will also be included in an email to you once you've registered.
I have a family member who wants to support my fundraising with cash or a cheque. The easiest way would be for them to give you cash, and then you to add the donation to your page with your own credit card. They can also drop the donation off at Huron House with a note who it is to support, and we can make sure it’s added to your individual total. If you need a pledge form to keep track, just let us know.
Will those with top times receive prizes? No. Because we are unable to officially verify times in a virtual event and rely on the honour system for self-reporting, there will be no time based prizes handed out. Instead, all prizes will be awarded to those who fundraise, both for those who are the top fundraisers, and the rest who raise over $150 entered in draws as in past years.
How do I track my time and report it? You can use any GPS enabled smartwatch such as a Garmin, Apple watch or Fitbit (certain versions) or phone based apps like RunKeeper, Strava and more. You can also map out a route ahead of time, and use your phone or watch or someone waiting at your start/finish line to just record the time. Each distance will have three options when reporting your time: run/walk, skate, and bike. Make sure you choose the correct corresponding category so your time is compared to those who completed their distance in the same way. An article from Race Roster with the complete details of how to upload results is here. If you're having an technical difficulties you can reach out them for additional support.
